Factors That Predispose To Hemroids
Hemorrhoids is that condition where the veins distributing to the anorectal region become swollen and inflammed. Hemroids is commonly referred to as piles in layman's lingo.
An infrequent cause of hemroids is an inherited genetic condition that may predispose the affected person to get a hemroid. It is not unsual to find middle-aged individuals suffering from hemroids because of the simple fact that aging goes hand in hand with a certain degree of loss in tissue elasticity.
Increased straining from constipation or diarrhea are common causes of hemroids as well. Liver disease and the accompanying portal hypertension also promote the formation of hemroids. Portal hypertension is the increase in blood pressure that occurs due back pressure in the portal vein that follows liver disease. Pregnancy too is frequently involved with hemroids on account of the build up in abdominal pressure that accompanies the enlargening fetus.
Food has a big role to play when it comes to the formation and predisposition of hemroids. There are certain food elements or lack thereof which lead to the perfect environment for the formation of a hemroid and they are: a diet low in fiber; a diet that does not provide enough fluids; a diet that supplies inadequate vitamin E and a diet that provides an excess of lactic acid; in other words an overly dairy-product rich diet!
Alcohol and coffee are two more dietary elements that have been associated with hemroid formation. The intake of excessive amounts of either booze or coffee separately or in tandem will predispose the invidual concerned to get hemroids. And to make matters worse, caffeine is a well-known inducer in elevating blood pressure (at least temporarily), and if taken in large enough doses for prolonged periods caffeine can help promote a permanent state of increased blood pressure. And as previously noted increase blood pressure is a well recognized factor in the predispostion or formation of hemroids.
It is somewhat ironic that hemroids are an affliction of the more affluent in society than those who lack the medical amenities and health benefits typically accorded the rich. The reason why hemroids are more common in affluent societies boil down to over consumption of processed foods that are low in fiber as well as the familiar toilet seat. Sitting down to pass stool, common as it is, is an unnatural position to the human anatomy and confers far more stress to the rectal region than does squatting and thus actually predisposes to hemroid formation.
