When we understand what factors cause hemroids we are then in a better position to prevent the hemroid from becoming worse and ultimately to treat and hopefully cure the hemroid.

To best treat any occurrence of hemroids it is imperative to be aware of the underlying predisposing factors that lead to the hemroid formation.

Factors That Predispose To Hemroids

So what are hemroids really? Hemroids is the term designated to that condition where the anorectal vessels become swollen and inflamed.

Some people are born with a genetic predisposition to weak vein and valve walls and this can be a predisposing cause of hemroids. Hemroids are commonly encountered in older people because of the invariable loss of tissue elasticity. Frequently hemroids occur on account of the increased pressure that accompanies straining due to diarrhea or constipation. In addition, hemroids are commonly seen in people who are obese, pregnant, or who have liver diseases that cause back pressure to build up in the lower veins through the portal vein, often referred to as portal hypertension.

When it comes to the association of diet and hemroid formation certain factors have been identified as positive promoters in the formation of hemroids. Such factors include the following: diets low in fiber, a diet that provides insufficienct fluids, a diet overly rich in dairy products and one that lacks or provides insufficient vitamin E.

If you are an avid coffee drinker who takes a large amount of caffeine on a regular basis you are increasing your chances of getting hemroids. Excessive amounts of alcohol on a frequent basis also predispose to hemroid formation. Caffeine has two strikes against it in the fight to prevent hemroids. How come? Because caffeine also causes the blood pressure to spike and large amounts over prolonged periods will certainly aid and abet in an elevated BP.

Hemroids occur more frequently in the so-called developed countries. This has been attributed to the prevalence of processed foods and also the ubiquitous toilet which convenient as it is puts undue strain on rectal region when passing stool.
