Treat Hemroids Quicker By Knowing Their Cause

Did you know that hemroids are a huge business?

In fact so huge is the hemroid business for pharmaceutical companies that last year almost 1.7 billion dollars were spent on over-the-counter remedies manufactured by these companies.

Now what the pharmaceutical industry does not tell and what the average hemorrhoid sufferer does not know is that the whole point about those over-the-counter treatments is to make you into a repeat customer

Knowing the causes of hemroids, is vital information for the prevention and treatment of hemroids.

When we understand what factors cause hemroids we are then in a better position to prevent the hemroid from becoming worse and ultimately to treat and hopefully cure the hemroid.

Even when choosing the right medication, it pays to know the causes of your hemroids, so that you can deal with them properly.

The Various Causes of Hemroids

Hemroids are veins found in the anorectal region that have become swollen and often inflammed due to increased back pressure for whatever reason, or due to stasis in blood flow.

An infrequent cause of hemroids is an inherited genetic condition that may predispose the affected person to get a hemroid. Age and the related loss of tissue elasticity are also common causes of hemroids in older people. When a person strains whilst on the toilet because of constipation or because they have diarrhea then the increased pressure from that straining promotes hemroid formation. In addition, hemroids are commonly seen in people who are obese, pregnant, or who have liver diseases that cause back pressure to build up in the lower veins through the portal vein, often referred to as portal hypertension.

When it comes to the association of diet and hemroid formation certain factors have been identified as positive promoters in the formation of hemroids. Such factors include the following: diets low in fiber, a diet that provides insufficienct fluids, a diet overly rich in dairy products and one that lacks or provides insufficient vitamin E.

Excessive caffeine or alcohol consumption can also cause hemroids, as both deplete the body of water. When it comes to hemroids caffeine is a two time offender because it elevates blood pressure a known factor that encourages the formation of hemroids.

It is somewhat ironic that hemroids are an affliction of the more affluent in society than those who lack the medical amenities and health benefits typically accorded the rich.

The reason why hemroids are more common in affluent societies boil down to over consumption of processed foods that are low in fiber as well as the familiar toilet seat.

Sitting down to pass stool, common as it is, is an unnatural position to the human anatomy and confers far more stress to the rectal region than does squatting and thus actually predisposes to hemroid formation.
